Houston, Texas, Board-Certified Family Law Attorney by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization
I am Leonard M. Roth, a board-certified family law specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Houston, Texas. I am a trained mediator and family law mediator also trained in collaborative law, which is a process that allows the parties in a family law dispute to resolve their case without the enhanced, destructive trauma and full cost of litigation. I have been in practice since 1972. I have practiced Family Law since 1972.
To become board-certified in family law, a lawyer must demonstrate knowledge and experience in a wide and varied range of legal issues and legal areas that impact the family relationship. A certified family law specialist must have:
- Been licensed to practice law for at least five years;
- Devoted a required percentage of practice to a specialty area for at least three years;
- Handled a wide variety of matters in the area to demonstrate experience and involvement;
- Attended continuing education seminars regularly to keep legal training up to date;
- Been evaluated by fellow lawyers, opposing lawyers, and judges;
- Passed a 6-hour written examination covering many areas of the law in addition to family law, such as tax, Criminal, Probate, Juvenile, Bankruptcy, Real Property, Administrative, Constitutional Law, Conflict of Laws, Security Regulations, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Civil Trial, Immigration, Federal and State Procedure, Federal and State Appellate Procedure.
Only a small percentage of family law attorneys in Houston are board-certified as specialists by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Family Law. A much smaller percentage of Family Law practitioners fully embrace collaborative law as a way to resolve divorce issues though an amicable process as opposed to a litigated process. I am a charter member of CLI-the Collaborative Law Institute, the State organization for Collaborative Law in Texas, a state on the forefront of Collaborative Law nationally and internationally. I have been a member of the Harris County bar Association Collaborative Law Section since its inception and will be in the State Bar Section when it is formed in the near future. I am a member of the IACP - the International Academy of Collaborative Law Professionals.
I am committed to a sincere philosophy in handling family law matters: every client deserves the best representation possible. I recognize the emotional trauma and pain individuals suffer when going through a divorce. As a result, I offer my clients the time and the experience necessary to guide them through one of the most difficult experiences in their life. I educate them regarding the law, procedure, and options so that they are prepared for the experience and are able to responsibly make intelligent decisions. In every case, I offer a variety of methods to resolve cases, ranging from collaborative forms of alternative dispute resolution to aggressive and experienced trial representation.
If you are looking for an experienced lawyer who has the distinction of being recognized as a certified specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and who can offer you complete representation in all areas of divorce or dissolution of marriage, count on me for the quality and compassionate representation you need and deserve.
